The first thing I would check is that App Scripts is NOT using the new Apps Script V8 runtime. The spreadsheet is not compatible with the new version.

In the spreadsheet Tools menu click on Script Editor. In the Script Editor click on the Run menu. If you are using the old run time it will look like the menu below:
