There is presently an exception that is being thrown in both the Lean Analytics Dashboard and the Lean Scrum Analytics Dashboard tools when any of the build dashboard options are executed:

Service Spreadsheets failed while accessing document with id…

The exception is due to an internal Google Error related to charts within Google Sheets. At the moment I do not have a work around for the error. I will continue to work to see if I can find a workaround until the problem is solved on Google’s end. The data generation in both applications still works properly so you can always create your own charts in the meantime.

I just published version 1.61 of the Enhanced Jira Query Tool. This version addresses two bugs:

Incorrect Cycle Flow Start Date

If your cycle statuses were different from your lead statuses then the Special: Cycle Flow Start Date was being calculated incorrectly. The date was using the lead statuses rather than the cycle statuses. This had a downstream impact of making all the cycle time calculations incorrect as well. The error was cause when I did a bunch of refactoring of the query engine.

Ghost Status Transition Dates

The Special: Status Transition Dates field was sometimes producing transition dates that…

A couple of weeks ago I was coaching a group of new Jira users. Any time I am working with people new to the tool I always like to provide context along with anti-patterns. If you are not familiar with the term anti-pattern it simply means a common approach to doing something that seems like a good idea, but in the long-run likely won’t work out very well. One of the people in the group said he was copiously writing down the details every time I mentioned one of the anti-patterns and asked if I could put a blog post…

Updates and Additions

oAuth 1.0A Support

The Query Tool now supports oAuth 1.0A authorization. This is a more secure mechanism for making Jira REST API calls than username and password. It does however require more configuration in both the EJQT and Jira. It will also require that you have Jira admin privileges in order to configure Jira. You can find more details regarding the necessary Jira configuration on my oAuth Dancing With Jira And Apps Scripts post. oAuth 2.0 is currently not supported for Jira REST API access by 3rd party applications. The latest version is available on the Agile Creatives Tools page.

oAuth is a framework that allows applications and services to request and provide access to one another without requiring they exchange a user’s username and password(basic authentication). It is a more secure mechanism for authorizing API access because user credentials don’t need to be passed in the API call in clear text. A simple way to think of it is like providing a service access alarm code to your house. It is not the master code you use, you can set an expiration date, and you can cancel access at any time.

I had been trying to implement oAuth authentication…
